Laboratory

The SEAMEO-TROPMED RCCN's laboratory unit focuses on three activities i.e. the biochemical assessments on nutrients , the body composition measurements and dietary assessments .

The Biochemical Laboratory is provided with facilities mainly to measure the vitamin and mineral status from blood samples. The quality of the assessment is controlled by applying certified plasma control material as well as comparing the results to other laboratories.

The following biochemical assessments are available in the SEAMEO-TROPMED RCCN laboratory:

•  Photometric method: Hemoglobin, Iron and Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC), Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Blood Glucose, Lipid profile, Protein status, Liver and Kidney function
•  Elisa method: Ferritin, Transferin receptor, AGP and CRP.
•  HPLC chromatography: Retinol, Beta Carotene, Lycopene and Tocopherol
•  Others: Zinc (AAS), Folic Acid, Vitamin B12

The Body Composition Laboratory has been progressively improved. The laboratory is designed to provide a convenient place for both the researchers and patients. Different kinds of anthropometric standardized equipments are provided to measure the nutritional status of individuals from different age groups. More convenient and sophisticated equipment such as Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer (BIA) is also available to measure human body composition.

The Laboratory also provides service for Dietary assessment using standardized equipments for food assessments and advanced nutrition software
