The Field Research Program in Applied Human Nutrition gives students from academic programs of other institutions the opportunity to carry out field research. The Field Research Program is intended for participants who are not enrolled in the Degree program offered by the Centre and who come with appropriate background, qualification, and financial support. Participants are requested to come in March-April (attach with field study of MSc students), August-May (attach with MSc student research) of each year.
There are three kinds of participants of this program: a. MSc students of academic program at other university b. Doctorate students of academic program at other universities c. Participants who come from an institution in outside Indonesia who want to gain research experience in the field of community nutrition
The implementation of the research will be made possible through the facilities of the SEAMEO-TROPMED Training Program, which also provide part-time use of office space and computer equipment. The program will facilitate access to communities in Indonesia who agree to participate in the research.
Objective
At the end of the program, participants are able to plan and analyze a research project in community nutrition. In addition, students will be able to present their experience in a professional report.
Structure
Participants are expected to write a research proposal before starting the research. Particularly, participants will be guided to formulate a research proposal in the context of the socio-cultural and ecological conditions of Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region, according to the research priorities formulated by the SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional Centre, Indonesia. The research proposal will include a review of existing literature of the topic to be studied, a detailed description of the research methodology, and the detailed of an operational plan for the implementation of the research. After approval by the advisors, participants present the proposal in front of the SEAMEO staff members and then implement the research project. Afterward, a presentation of research results will follow. A report will be expected at the end of the study. A certificate will be award to the participant upon submitted of full report.
Students are encouraged to publish the research work in national and international scientific journals. In case of publication of presentation of research data, all scientists involved in the research who were mentioned in the research proposal are considered as authors. The SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional Centre, Indonesia has to be considered as institution in all publication and presentation.
Admission Requirements
The SEAMEO-TROPMED Community Nutrition Training Program is open to a wide range of professional from governmental and private organizations. These individuals may be involved in developmental planning and implementing public health or food and nutrition program and projects, or teach at university or professional training level. Holder of B.Sc degree or related university experience in food and nutrition or from nutrition-related sciences such as medicine, public health, biology, social science, economic are welcome.
Participants will need to have basic knowledge on Health and Nutrition. The Centre requires a minimum TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 450 or equivalent proven proficiency in English language.
